What is Act alone?

Act Alone is a theatre festival dedicated to the art of acting alone, monodrama. The Act Alone festival is held every year in the village Sudureyri in the Westfjords of Iceland and always on the second weekend of August. There is no entrance fee at the Act Alone Theatre Festival. Artist director and founder of the festival is Elfar Logi Hannesson. Act alone is the oldest theatre festival in Iceland.

The first Act Alone festival was held in 2004 and the festival has been every year since then. On Act alone the are plays both from Iceland and abroad. Icelandic actors and artist that have performed at Act Alone are for example Arnar Jónsson, Bernd Ogrodnik, Bjarni Haukur Þórsson, Edda Björgvinsdóttir, Gerður Kristný, Ilmur Kristjansdottir, Jörundur Ragnarsson María Elllingsen and Mugison. Among foreign performers that have been on Act alone are Eric Bogosian, Linnea Happonen, Ole Brekke, Silvana Soledad Lavitola and Toomas Tross.

Act Alone has been growing every year and now there are not only theatre shows but also dance, music, poetry and magic. Act Alone is the only theatre festival in Iceland that is held every year.
